Ford’s new low-cost EV platformOverview
Ford is introducing a new
low-cost EV platform to make electric vehicles more accessible to mainstream
buyers. The first model based on this architecture will be a midsize
electric pickup truck, expected to arrive in late 2026 or as a 2027
model year vehicle.
Built in Louisville, Kentucky
(USA), the truck will use LFP prismatic battery cells, known for
durability and lower costs. Powertrain options will include single-motor and
dual-motor setups, delivering between 250 and 400 horsepower. Higher
trims are expected to achieve 0–60 mph in under 5 seconds.
With an estimated driving range
of 250–350 miles, the truck will support DC fast charging, adding up
to 80% battery in just 20–45 minutes. Ford will also integrate its BlueCruise
hands-free driving system, OTA software updates, and full smartphone
integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The truck is positioned as an affordable
alternative to higher-priced EV pickups like the Tesla Cybertruck and
Rivian R1T, making it ideal for buyers seeking practicality, modern tech, and
lower ownership costs.
